Do I need a developer to launch an app?
The short answer
For most first apps, no. Vibe coding tools can now build and help you launch a working app without a developer. You might still want one later for something complex or highly custom, but it's no longer a requirement to get started.
What's changed
Launching an app used to mean hiring a developer, or becoming one. Building tools that turn plain-English descriptions into working software have changed that for a large range of ideas, especially first products.
When you can skip a developer
For most straightforward products, describing what you want, testing it carefully, and refining it through a building tool gets you to a real, working launch.
- Simple to moderately complex apps and websites
- Products where you can clearly describe every feature
- Early versions meant to test whether an idea works
When a developer might still help
Highly specialised, technically complex, or unusually large-scale products can outgrow what a building tool handles well. That's usually a later-stage problem though, not something to worry about before you've launched your first version and found out whether people want it.
